About the Programs
About USTB
The University of Science and Technology Beijing was founded in 1952 through the merger of mining and metallurgy departments from six prestigious Chinese universities, including Tianjin University (formerly Peiyang University). It has since developed into a key university with engineering as its core strength and coordinated development across engineering, science, management, humanities, economics, and law.
Over more than seventy years of development, USTB has gradually formed its university motto of “Seeking Truth and Fostering Innovation,” its fine tradition of “rigorous scholarship and respect for practice,” and its new-era institutional spirit of “pursuing excellence and striving to lead.” The university has trained over 300,000 professionals for society and made significant contributions to the development of China’s steel industry, earning the reputation of “the cradle of the steel industry.”
MBA Program
USTB is one of the earliest universities in China to pay close attention to and engage in MBA education. As early as 1986, it launched an MBA graduate program in cooperation with McMaster University in Canada. In 1997, it was officially approved as one of China’s pilot institutions for MBA education by the Academic Degrees Office of the State Council, and in 2001, it passed the national MBA education qualification assessment organized by the same authority.
Guided by the principles of specialization, excellence, and internationalization, and committed to the mission of cultivating talent and serving industry, the School of Economics and Management aims to develop compound senior management talent with strategic vision and leadership capability.
Drawing on the School’s distinctive disciplinary strengths, outstanding faculty, and high level of internationalization, the USTB MBA program has, over more than twenty years of development, established a sound training system and a set of distinctive educational features, continuously providing high-quality business education.
In response to new developments in technology and new demands from industry, the MBA program has achieved deep integration between big data and traditional business disciplines, while also actively promoting collaboration between business education and the university’s strong engineering and science fields. It is committed to cultivating advanced economic and management professionals who possess:
a strong sense of social responsibility and a global vision,
solid foundations in economics and management theory,
organizational and managerial competence,
leadership and innovation capability,
and the ability to make effective decisions in uncertain environments.
Master of Finance (MF) Program
The Master of Finance program is supported by the School of Economics and Management at USTB, which holds the prestigious EQUIS, AACSB, and AMBA triple accreditation. Rooted in the university’s leading disciplinary strengths in metallurgy, materials, mining, and information science, the program is built on a特色 training system characterized by the deep integration of economics, management, science, and engineering.
The program aims to cultivate high-level interdisciplinary financial professionals who can meet the needs of China’s financial reform and major national strategies. Graduates are expected to have:
a strong sense of social responsibility and mission,
an international perspective and entrepreneurial spirit,
solid professional knowledge and skills in finance,
and the ability to use emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence to solve real-world financial problems.
Master of Digital Economy (MDE) Program
The Master of Digital Economy program builds on the School’s existing experience and resources in doctoral education in the first-level disciplines of Management Science and Engineering and Business Administration. It is designed to cultivate high-level digital economy professionals who can respond to the development needs of China’s digital economy.
The program aims to develop innovative, application-oriented, and practice-based professionals who possess:
a strong sense of social responsibility and mission,
an international outlook and pioneering spirit,
solid knowledge of digital economy theories, technologies, methods, and tools,
familiarity with the rules and legal frameworks governing digital economy management,
and the capability to engage in decision-making and operations related to the digital economy.
Taking USTB’s selection as one of the first national pilot universities for the “Three-All Education” comprehensive reform as an opportunity, the program has built an integrated, high-level, high-standard, and efficient ideological and educational system for digital economy talent cultivation.
Centered on the interdisciplinary foundations of applied economics, information management, big data science, metallurgical engineering, and resource and environmental management, the program adopts an approach that breaks down disciplinary boundaries to form a multidisciplinary teaching and training team for digital economy education.
With the mission of cultivating outstanding application-oriented talent and providing think tank support and consulting services for the digital transformation and upgrading of process industries represented by steel and metallurgy, the program continues to refine its disciplinary direction, generate new theories, perspectives, and teaching成果, and vigorously promote the development of a digital economy discipline that fully reflects the distinct identity, style, and strengths of USTB.
