I. About the School
The University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB) was founded in 1952 through the merger of the departments of mining and metallurgy from six renowned Chinese universities, including Tianjin University (formerly Peiyang University) and Tsinghua University. It has since developed into a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education, with engineering as its core strength and coordinated development across engineering, science, management, humanities, economics, and law. USTB was among the first universities in China to establish a graduate school, among the first institutions included in the national “211 Project,” and among the first pilot universities for the “985 Project Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform.” It was selected for the national “2011 Plan” in 2014, designated as a Double First-Class University in 2017, and approved in 2018 as a jointly supported university by the State Administration for Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense and the Ministry of Education. In the QS China Mainland University Rankings 2025, USTB ranked 24th.
The School of Economics and Management is one of USTB’s 14 schools. Its history can be traced back to the early 1950s, when the Division of Metallurgical Economics and Enterprise Organization was established at the former Beijing Institute of Iron and Steel Technology. Through the efforts of several generations of faculty and staff, the School has grown into an influential institution for economics and management education and research both in China and internationally. The School earned AMBA accreditation in 2013, AACSB accreditation in 2018, and EQUIS accreditation in 2024, joining the ranks of internationally recognized high-level business schools. As of September 2024, the School had 172 faculty and staff members, including 126 full-time faculty, with 95% holding doctoral degrees. More than 80% of the faculty have had overseas visiting or study experience, providing a strong foundation for the School’s international development.
The School currently offers seven undergraduate programs:
Information Management and Information Systems, Big Data Management and Applications, International Economics and Trade, Business Administration, Accounting, Financial Engineering, and Engineering Management.
